The Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI) has been inaugurated in Abuja.
Inaugurating the branch, the Vice President of ASURI, Comrade Kassim Izebe, congratulated the members of the union at the branch for joining ASURI at this point in time.
He said the union is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel concerning most of its struggles, adding that with the National Research and Innovation Council Bill having passed the second reading at the Senate and the Public Hearing having been held, the dream of the union for institutionalized research funding was becoming a reality.
Comrade Izebe said that the struggle to raise the retirement age of non-academic staff of Research Institutions from 60 to 65 is being championed by ASURI.
Welcoming members of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of ASURI who paid him a courtesy visit to his office, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive of LRCN, Alhaji Abdullahi Gafaru Wase, said the coming to the Council was a welcome development.
Other members of CWC who were at the inauguration were Comrade Mohammed Nma Baba (PRO), Comrade (Engr.) Emmanuel Akabueze (Financial Secretary), Comrade (Engr.) Stephen Badu and Comrade Anslem Eragbe-Aphimia (National Organising Secretary, as well as specialists from ASURI Headquarters.
